  1. The order book, and what depth actually tells you
The number displayed on a market card is the price of the smallest possible trade. The order book tells you what your trade will actually cost, whether you will be able to get out, and whether the price means anything at all.
  2. Spread, slippage and the true cost of entry
Your real entry price is the ask, not the midpoint, plus whatever the book charges you for your size. Every cent of that raises the probability you need to be right, and beginners consistently compare their estimate against the wrong number.
  3. Limit orders, and why market orders are a beginner tax
A market order accepts whatever the book is offering. A limit order names your price and declines everything worse. Patience is the only edge available to you on day one, and the limit order is how you spend it.
  4. Building a watchlist filter
Almost every market you look at is untradeable for you, and the skill worth building is disqualifying them quickly and in writing. A filter turns a two-hour browse into a two-minute pass and removes the part where your mood decides.
